IRCTC Mobile Ticketing Service Crosses 1K Users Everyday

Though many Indian travel websites' user interface may be better, but most of the users book tickets online through IRCTC, the pioneer in Indian railways online ticket booking. IRCTC had gone a step forward last year by launching it’s own mobile rail ticket booking services. The good news is that this mobile service has crossed 1K users. It’s now possible for the users to book a ticket through their mobile after registering initially and downloading suitable software on their mobile handset. The passenger will receive the reservation message with full details of the ticket including PNR, train no, date of journey and class after booking. This virtual message would be considered as equivalent to the e-ticket better known by the passengers at Electronic Reservation Slip (ERS). Passengers will just have to show the reservation message of the confirmed ticket instead of carrying a print-out of the e-ticket.

Booking tickets through mobile phones requires internet connection. The service charge of booking the ticket through mobile is similar to that of e-tickets i.e. Rs 10 for Sleeper Class and Rs 20 for other higher classes. Registration is to be done only at the time of first transaction, after that the username and password can be used to book the tickets. This service is currently being used by more than a thousand users after introducing it on a pilot basis. IRCTC has also launched it’s mobile version of the website which can be accessed by visiting #-Link-Snipped-# from the mobile. Features of it's mobile version include booking ticket/enquiry, booked history and cancelling the ticket. Currently the application is provided by the respective service provider firms like NGPay, Paymate and Atom. Moreover IRCTC is also expected to launch it’s own mobile application soon which could be downloaded directly from www.irctc.co.in.
