Internet Stats In 2010

Let's take a  look at what happened on the Internet in year 2010. Pingdom, the web monitoring company has compiled interesting statistics about the Internet. Let's look at it -

1. Emails: 1.88 billion email users sent over 107 trillion emails. Over 480 new users created new email accounts. Unfortunately 89.1 % of the volume of email was Spam. Over 25% of the emails were sent by mails from corporate email accounts.

2. Web Domains: By end of 2010, Internet has over 255 million websites, with 24.1 million websites were created in 2010. Of these, 88.8 million were the .COM domain names. 13.2 million were .Net domain names and about 8.6 million were .Org domain names. Overall there was a good 7% increase in the number of domain names over 2009.

3. Netizens: There are about 1.97 billion Internet users with over 14% rise in the number of Internet users over 2009.

4. Blogs: Blopulse estimates about 152 million blogs on the Internet.

5. Web Browsers: Web browsers is the dominant application used to access the Internet. Among the browsers, Internet Explorer leads the market with 46.9% share followed by 30% by Firefox and 15% by Chrome.

The internet penetration is growing all over the world, which I believe is a very good thing. What's your opinion about these stats?
