Intel’s Ultrabook To Bridge Gap Between PCs & Tablets With Ivy Bridge

Mr. Sean Maloney, executive vice president, Intel corp. has unveiled its ultra thin Ultrabook. The important feature of this laptop would be the combination of intelligent technology by Intel and good looks like that of Apple’s iphone and ipad. The laptop would be just 20 mm thick. Facing a heat from its rival Apple, Intel is now going to enter the mobile business and intends to make chips for cell phones, netbooks and Tablets. Finally, taking a cue from Apple Inc., Intel Corp. has also made up its mind to give a tough competition to the former’s ipad and iphone. Intel is facing a competition from Apple who has now captured a large market share with its two inventions.

The chips being used in Apple’s gadgets and most of the smartphones are ARM ones. The one which will be used in Ultrabook is the Ivy Bridge with 3D transistors with 22nm manufacturing technology. Ivy Bridge is the second generation Intel core processors, the first one being Sandy Bridge or more technically called as The Core iX. In this way, Ultrabook will bridge the gap between traditional PCs and tablets.

According to Intel, the main objective of the company is to make ultrabook as thin as possible. Intel also eyes to bring down prices to gain a lead in market because if the ultrabooks are more than $1000, the company will lose 10% of netbook market. So price reduction will remain a big task. Hence, we can safely assume that they will sell below $1000. Recently significant changes have been seen in market due to introduction of smartphones. The sleek models of these ultrabooks will further blur the boundaries of tablets netbooks etc. It seems like a case of fashion. The industry is constantly evolving and even Intel has to follow the suit.

Intel has also partnered with Google for its Chromebook. Maloney was attending Computex exhibition in Taiwan. He was present there to push his new product. The Chromebook features advanced technologies for efficient web browsing. Chromebook is expected to be a tough rival to Microsoft. However, whether Ultrabook or Chromebook, will they mark a significant change to reduce the gap between PCs and Tablets? Well, it will be a matter which the consumers will decide in days to come. The positive news will mark a revolution in the computing world.
