Intelligent Displays for Smart cities with RIC

Project Abstract / Summary :
In the recent decade the communication technology is developed by leaps and bounds.Now a day’s every advertisement is going to be digital. Many companies are manufacturing audio / video systems like public addressing systems, CCTV, re-programmable sign boards etc. The big shops, shopping centers, classrooms, public transportation are using the digital moving displays now. In Railway station and bus stands everything that is ticket information, platform number etc is displaying in digital moving display.But all these systems are hardwired and complex in nature to design. In these systems we cannot change the messages without present at that place. The proposed system will overcome all these problems by introducing the wireless communication interface such as GSM, GPS, and GPRS to these systems. The proposed system is intelligent display of the moving messages with remote control. In this proposed system we can display the moving messages in the Graphic LCD (GLCD) which change on the instruction of the number pressed(0 to 9 messages can be stored). We can also edit the messages present in the numbers.We can instantly type the required message from the remote by facing remote towards the display.These GLCD displays can be used in shopping malls, theaters, public transportation, classrooms, traffic signs, highways signs etc.The project aims to develop a moving sign board which empowers the user to change the scrolling message using SMS service via GSM, GPRS, and Keypad(alphanumeric) instantaneously. The user can update it even from a remote distant. This is an “Anywhere at any time” service. This system can also be used with the remote control which is a handy application.

This system is also very handful for police or army .i.e. displays will be connected to all the main centers in city if they want to display messages about something serious or urgent within 5 minute, which they cannot. So keeping this situation in mind a new display system which can be accessed remotely, using the GSM technology, GPRS technology to make the communication between microcontroller and mobile was designed.
Other Examples:
A commercial model can be able to display more than one message at a time. In our system we are sending messages via GSM, GPRS networks and displaying on a GLCD by utilizing AT commands. The same principle can be applied to control electrical appliances at a distant location.
Robots can be controlled in a similar fashion by sending the commands to the robots(SMS Application).


Why did you choose to work on this project topic : By introducing the concept of wireless technology in the field of communication we can make our communication more efficient and faster, with greater efficiency we can display the messages and with less errors and maintenance. SMS, GPRS applications has been used in education to send notification using paperless environment to a group of students in campus pertaining to class cancellation, test announcement and class postponements without pasting information using paper. The advantages of the project work includes that the information could be received quickly and it reduces the number of non-notified students. This presents a new way of online communications through mobile or internet to notice board that helps students and lecturers to be always aware of appointments no matter where they are. Among the advantages of the system include reduced time lag problem.
The based solution is to develop home security system using a wireless to keeps your house safe.
The evolution of these display devices will mark a new era in communication and a transition from normal displays to pictorial displays in which suitable messages can be displayed.
