Indian smartphone startup OKWU unveils OKWU Omicron smartphone at Rs 10,499

Indian smartphone startup OKWU has launched its second smartphone in the country, the 4G VoLTE equipped OKWU Omicron at Rs 10,499. The unveiling of the smartphone was done by the Bollywood actor Sagarika Ghatge who was one of the lead actresses in the film Chak De! India along with Anshuman Atul, CEO and Managing Director, OKWU and Arjun Gupta, COO, OKWU.


OKWU is an Indian startup that began its operations last year and launched its first smartphone model OKWU Pi at the November 2016. Though its smartphones are being manufactured and assembled in Shenzhen, China, the company is planning to develop an assembly unit in India along with a Research and Development facility in partnership with Amity University.

Coming to the specifications of the new OKWU Omicron smartphone, it flaunts a 5.5-inch full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS display offering a pixel density of 480 ppi. The processing duties in the OKWU Omicron are handled by the 1.5GHz Quad-core MediaTek MT6737T CPU paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage with room for further expansion by up to 64 GB via a microSD card.

On the photography department, the OKWU Omicron is equipped with a 13-megapixel camera sensor at its rear with PDAF and dual LED flash and a 5-megapixel snapper accompanied by the selfie flash on the front.


Connectivity options on the OKWU Omicron handset include the dual Sim with 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS/AGPS, micro USB 2.0 port and FM Radio. The OKWU Omicron also gets a fingerprint sensor placed at the back of the smartphone, which the company claims will unlock the device in 0.1 seconds while storing up to 5 fingerprints.

The OKWU Omicron runs on Google's Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system and gets all of its power from the 3000mAh lithium-ion battery, which is capable of delivering up to 72 hours of standby time and 16 hours of talk-time.
