HUMAN MACHINE INTERFACING DEVICE

Project Abstract / Summary : Traditional input systems for interaction with machines include keyboards, joystick or the mouse. Those suffering from physical disabilities may be unable to use such forms of input. In the proposed system, a “Human Machine Interfacing Device” utilizing head movement to communicate with computers and other embedded systems acting as an intermediary to an appliance is developed. Developments in the field of communication have enabled computer commands being executed using head movement. Easy input is given using a voice-controlled kit for paralyzed users. This system describes the design considerations of an economical head-operated computer mouse.

Why did you choose to work on this project topic : We wish to contribute for the society. It is important to provide a chance to all humans irrespective of their physical disabilities to interact with machines in real time, without any human intervention which provide greater achievements by them in future.
The simple head operated computer mouse involves the use of tri axis accelerometer placed in the heads to determine the head tilt and help the cursor’s movement. The clicking of the mouse is activated by the user’s eye blink using a sensor. The keyboard function is implemented by allowing the user to use a voice recognition system.
This proposed multi-functional portable device for better human-machine interaction can be applied in the following applications:
• Replacement of the mouse as a more convenient interaction peripheral
• Interacting with 3D objects on computer screen
• Easy accessibility tool for people with physical abilities.
We look forward to facilitate rich interactive features which would enable the users to interact and take portability to the next level. The speed of movement of the cursor might be increased. This interface can be introduced into many control systems at home such as powered wheel chairs, telephones and appliances which has a great potential for demand at the market.
