Generally any induction motor consists of two major elements called stator and rotor. Also with the fact that stator winding draws current which lags the supply voltage by 90 degrees. This is the main reason for the low power factor in the inductor motor.

In order to increase the power factor, phase advancer is used as a.c exciter which is mounted on the shaft of the induction motor and connected to the rotor to provide ampere turns to the stator winding that provides exciting current, hence leading the current by 90 degrees. Resulting in the improved power factor.
