GPU Cluster Performs 350 Billion Guesses Per Second To Crack Any Enterprise Windows Pass Code In Und

Jeremi Gosney, the founder and CEO of Stricture Consulting Group has revealed a computing cluster consisting of 25 AMD Radeon graphics cards that performs 350 billion guesses per second in a effort to crack password hashes generated by the NTLM cryptographic algorithm that has been employed by Microsoft in each of its OS since Server 2003. Any eight character password can be cracked by using brute force of 95 ^ 8 combinations in 5.5 hours.

The Linux based GPU cluster that was unveiled in Passwords? 12 conference in Oslo, Norway last week uses Virtual OpenGL cluster platform to combine the computing power of all the graphics cards to run the free password cracking software ocl-Hashcat Plus. The only drawback of this system is that it can be only used to perform offline cracks on password lists that are retrieved by hackers from websites. Online attacks cannot be performed by this machine because as you might be aware that most websites limit the number of attempts that can be made on any account.
