Google’s Sundar Pichai Joins Race For Microsoft’s CEO: Report

While Bloomberg had earlier reported that Satya Nadella, boss of Microsoft’s $20.3 billion servers unit is being seen as favorite to be the CEO of Microsoft there are reports claiming to have brought up the name of Google’s Sundar Pichai, another person of Indian origin who is a senior vice president at Google.

As quoted in ET, John Furrier-founder of the blog SiliconAngle.com, has said in his post of January 31that his media company had confirmed Pichai as the top-choice for the post. Negotiations were on with Pichai, Furrier said. Pichai got media attention in India when Google products he headed was expanded to include Android. Nadella has been with Microsoft 12 years longer than Pichai at Google. Nadella has clued in on the challenges that Microsoft faces as cloud computing takes center stage. Last year, Nadella had said that there was a tectonic shift that modern enterprises were going through.

Nadella has been credited with pushing Microsoft for its Windows software, to make its applications easier to work the way its customers want it to. Both Nadella and Pichai went to engineering schools in India but Pichai is from an IIT(Indian Institute of Technology). Further, both went on to take advanced degrees in US but again Pichai has outshined Nadella from winning a silver medal in IIT Kharagpur to be named as the Siebel Scholar at the University of Pennysylvania. They come from different cities but both are from south India which has dominated India’s IT outsourcing industry.

It’s a choice between the two Indians for the top post. What’s your choice? Share your thoughts.
