Google had announced in september that they are conducting fall spring-clean in the coming months by either shutting down a number of Google products and services or merging them with the other products as 'features'. Among the names of the services that were closed are Aardvark, Desktop, Fast Flip, Google Maps API for Flash, Google Pack, Google Web Security, Image Labeler, Notebook, Sidewiki, Subscribed Links and of course, Google Labs.

Taking another leap forward, Google Official Google Blog: A fall sweep on it's official blog that some other major products are being shut down. Google Code Search, that let us search open source code with anything from regular expressions to functions, will be shut down on January 15, 2012. And then like web users had anticipated, with the outset of Google+, Google is taking down Google Buzz and Buzz API. Similarly iGoogle, the personal web portal, which was previously known as Google Personalized Homepage will be removed too. Users will be able to download their existing content through Google Takeout. Back in 2007, Google had acquired a product called 'Jaiku' that is a service very similar to Twitter will also be axed in January. Then there is University Research Program for Google Search in the list of services being scrapped. It provides API access to the search results for a small number of approved academic researchers.

Bradley Horowitz, Vice President, Google Product said in the blog post, "Changing the world takes focus on the future, and honesty about the past. We learned a lot from products like Buzz, and are putting that learning to work every day in our vision for products like Google+. Our users expect great things from us; today’s announcements let us focus even more on giving them something truly awesome."
