Google Play Smart ‘Delta’ Updates Rolled Out

Yesterday you read about the #-Link-Snipped-# in Google Play Store, and now here is some more news that will put smile on the faces of all Android users. The recent update from Google has enabled a smart update feature. Previously when you had to update an app, Google Play used to download the entire APK (Application Package File) and this led to bigger size of download and ultimately your wireless usage took a hit. But now you can download the “delta” update of the application which is the difference between the original app and the updated app. This will be helpful in case of large apps and save your data usage by a huge margin.

Users noticed this difference when they tried to update certain apps yesterday as the #-Link-Snipped-#cost them 3MB instead of 13 MB. Other examples include ezPDF Reader, Dead Trigger and so on. Google had previously announced this feature during Google I/O 2012 but never declared a date of release.
