Google Drive Update: 5 Gb Free Storage Via drive.google.com

On March 28, we informed you that Google's cloud storage service called '#-Link-Snipped-#' is nearing its launch and may probably be revealed sometime in April. We also informed you that Google plans to offer 1 Gb free online space and plans to charge for more to those who need it. However, we now have more interesting information about Google Drive. According to a recent [Breaking] Newest Google Drive Screenshot Shows 5GB of Free Storage - TalkAndroid.com by Talk Android, Google is planning to offer 5 GB of free space! First things first: Google Drive is expected to function the same way as we guessed as earlier. The page shows 'Download Google Drive' button, which means Google Drive will have a local client for desktop; maybe an app for Android mobile. Google mentions that the drive will be available on #-Link-Snipped-#. The URL currently shows Error 404; but we know for sure that the service will be available through that URL once it's publicly launched. What's even more interesting is that Google says they'll offer 5GB free at start to everyone and you can choose to upgrade to more space later. We do not have any clue about the pricing Google plans for the service and upgraded storage space. It's also expected that the service will be announced in the week of April 16; so we won't have to wait longer to dump all our files to the GDrive!

5 Gb of free storage space is definitely more exciting than 1 or 2 Gb we thought Google would offer for free. But we also know that it's not something Google can create a lot of buzz with. Do you remember the days when other services were offering 2-10 Mb email storage when Google launched their Gmail with whooping 1 Gb storage space? It even forced Yahoo Mail to start offering 'Unlimited' email. If Google wants to create a buzz and pull the early adopters from rivals like Box, Dropbox, Skydrive etc. then anything less than 50 Gb is boring!

Update: We're being informed that the above screenshot is fake. If you have any concrete information about it; share it with us thorugh comments.
