Google can't afford to let people 'like' all the content on the Internet on Facebook and had to come up with their own answer to the 'Like' button. Google has been working on the +1 button for long time now. Finally, Google previewed the button at Google I/O conference. Google also assured that the +1 button will be launched within weeks and demoed how the button works, how to customize it and the various statistics it will offer to website owners and publishers.

Those who have used different social sharing buttons like Facebook Share, Digg, Stumble Upon, Google Buzz etc., will find +1 very similar to configure. The button generation form has few basic tweaks to customize the look & feel of the button like Size, Language, URL to Include, JS Call Functions and shows real time preview of the button. Once you are done customizing, you can simply embed the generated JavaScript code in your website where you want the button to appear. The main advantage of the JS Call Functions is that it lets coders define the button post click actions. The button will be available in 'Small', 'Medium' & 'Standard' & 'Tall' sizes with and without the +1 count. Google will set a threshold for each website and once the +1 count goes beyond the threshold, the publishers will be able to view the statistics.

Google also announced the availability of detailed data about the activity of +1 button like the total +1 your page has and the graph of time line vs +1s your website received.  These reports will be made available via Google Webmaster Tools.
