Going underground: cities of the future

I love the outdoors, rain or shine. The trees and their winged denizens chirping away makes you feel one with nature. Looking up at the night sky at the march of the Zodiac with the occsional shooting star is very satisfying.
With the advancement of technology we now have the capability going underground. I for one find this abhorrent.
