Gionee Pioneer P3S Has Android Lollipop Sprinkled With Amigo 3.1 For Rs. 5999

Gionee Mobiles has been late to the entry level smartphone party with the recent launch of Pioneer P3S. The Gionee Pioneer P3S was unveiled on the company website and put up for sale yesterday. With a price tag of Rs. 5999, the Pioneer P3S is a thousand bucks more expensive than other entry level segment smartphones and we shall be discussing if the smartphone is worth the additional thousand rupees or not in this article. One of the notable things about the Gionee Pioneer P3S is that it is the first budget smartphone from the company to feature Android Lollipop that is garnished with the company’s new UI, Amigo 3.1. With Amigo 3.1 UI customers can have features like customised screenshots, power manager, phone data transfer and a theme gallery.

Things do not start off well for the Gionee Pioneer P3S as we find a smaller 4.5inch display with lower FWVGA (854 x480 pixels) resolution. If you take a look at all other smartphones in this category, such as Xiaomi Redmi 2, Lenovo A6000 Plus or the Karbonn Titanium Mach Five you find that everyone of them has a 5-inch HD resolution display. Underneath the hood we find a MediaTek MT6580 chipset that houses a 1.3GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU and 1GB of RAM. Things start looking up for the Gionee Pioneer P3S when you discover that the phone has 16GB of internal storage, which is twice than what its competitors have to offer. A microSD card slot for memory expansion has been duly included.

When it comes to the cameras on the Gionee Pioneer P3S, we find a 5.0 MP sensor with LED flash on the rear and a VGA sensor on the front. The dual-SIM supported Gionee Pioneer P3S is powered by 2000mAh battery that promises standby times of up to 200 hours and talk time of up to 9 hours. You get all the necessary connectivity options such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and microUSB on the Gionee Pioneer P3S along with proximity, g-sensor, e-compass, motion and light sensors. By now you might have realised that the Pioneer P3S does have good chances of succeeding in the competitive entry-level market as the similarly priced Lenovo A6000 Plus and the Karbonn Titanium Mach Five are much better options.
