Ford's Silicon Valley Venture - A Research Lab

It is recent trend for automobile companies to #-Link-Snipped-# supporting their cars. Many Global brands are engaged in developing software and related tools for making their vehicles more customer-friendly. It is for this reason that today's automobiles are no longer treated merely as ways of transportation. Ford has announced its plans to set up a fully functional lab in #-Link-Snipped-# to aid in its growing research and to find potential technology partners to develop engineering and business models.

The lab which will be located in San Francisco Bay area of California will be established for research on independent projects. It is noteworthy, that the company is constantly taking help of its research centers in developing latest technology. Ford is also seeking talented app developers who wish to work in developing SYNC compatible apps.

The key areas where the latest attempt will be useful are car's sensing technologies, developing open source hardware and software developer kits, Personal mobility. Recently, the automobile giant expressed its wish to establish a research platform OpenXC. This will enable developers to access vehicle data, critical for their work in developing #-Link-Snipped-#.

The aim of this lab is to build network of #-Link-Snipped-#. This will be accomplished by partnering with start-ups and established firms. The company is also in talks with various leading Universities. As a matter of fact, the research platform OpenXC will deliver the developer kits to participating Universities like Stanford, MIT and University of Michigan next month.

The state-of-art facility will be given shape by K. Venkatesh Prasad, senior technical leader for open innovation with Ford Research and Innovation. It appears that Ford wants to innovate and create new technologies. The day is not far away when we will have an addition to #-Link-Snipped-#, #-Link-Snipped-#, and #-Link-Snipped-#.
