Ford Shells Out $100mn For Upgrading Production

As a concerned automaker for its customers, Ford has planned to shell out $100mn for upgrading its production facilities worldwide. Ford has always faced a tough competition from Japanese automakers like Toyota and others. Ford is constantly lagging in business and needed a strong technological aspect for gaining a lead in market share. The proposed up gradation of production facilities will mainly relate to the robotic laser technology to reduce wind noise in car doors.

#-Link-Snipped-#The earlier methods required a worker to manually fit a door in a car. The laser technology will make it possible to automatically control the process. Also, because it will be a mechanized process, it will be always free from human errors if any. Ford had earlier planned to start an automatic mechanization for its Explorer and then in Focus however, the facilities were not ready then. Now, when these Robot guided laser machines are available, the new cars will be manufactured by employing these.

The robots are however tested for being “Bugs free”. They will be employed in 17 facilities worldwide, so there is a greater chance that defects in these machines are reflected globally. Ford has an earlier experience of getting criticism over faulty touch screens. The US giant had to face an embarrassing situation. The company wants to have foolproof production methods this time. Ford motor Co. will start up gradation process from its Saarlouis plant, Germany and Michigan assembly plant. The technology will enable these plants to have a high precision of one tenth of millimeter. Tighter door fitments would result in a big reduction in wind noise. The automaker is also going through a process of debugging its touch screen feature which would go blank.

The troubled automaker is presently going through a phase of evolution and up gradation. Regarding its success of models, Ford is trying to make a comeback in terms of brand name. Creating new car models would not be a good option, instead it should aim at creating a good brand name of the same model in 10-15 years time. The automaker could do it the Japanese way otherwise they may suffer like the Cadillac.

However with the new and improved ways, the customers will get a chance to be happy. Considering the current progress of Ford’s models and its existing technologies, the company seems to be on a right track.
