Firefox OS Gets 7 New Handsets As Mozilla Plans To 'Flood' The Market With Its $25 Smartphones

At Mobile World Congress 2013, Mozilla announced its Firefox OS. At Mobile World Congress 2014, it launched seven new handsets that will be available worldwide except the US. Mozilla also announced the ambitious plan to 'flood' the smartphone market with its $25 smartphone. Although not as popular as the android or the iOS platform, Firefox OS phones are getting better and better with more and more manufacturers coming up with devices running Firefox OS. This fact was supported by Alcatel and ZTE's launch of multiple dual-core mobile handsets.

The ZTE Open II runs on a dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. It has a 480 X 320 display, and 2 MP camera. Overall, ZTE Open II seems to be an entry level, low budget phone.

Mitchell Baker, chairman of the Mozilla Foundation said that they are planning an open source platform, called "the Web" which can work on all devices. To that effect, Mozilla has partnered with Shanghai-based Speradtrum for designing and building a device that costs just $25. It then will deliver these devices to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Mozilla COO Jay Sullivan hoped that the efficiency of Spreadtrum could create a 'flood' of $25 smartphones in the market.

Another Firefox OS-based phone was launched by no other than Mozilla itself. This phone is a reference handset, enabling developers to test new Firefox OS features and apps against different memory configurations. The phone, named Firefox OS Flame will have the following specs:
