Facebook’s New AI Team Employs “Deep Learning” To Make Better News Feed
Every morning you wake up and log-in to your Facebook account to see what your friends are up to these days. Initially, you used to browse through all posts from your friends and pages but as you continued to add friends and like pages they started bombarding your news feed with unnecessary content in form of posts. Yes, you have the option of blocking their posts from your News Feed but what if you miss something important that they post, something that you were interested in? Well, not to worry as Facebook has started working on bringing a better news feed for you with its newly formed AI team. This new research team consisting of eight people will be using deep learning approach to artificial intelligence to understand user behaviour.
The deep learning approach uses simulated networks of brain cells to process data. This simulated neural network is being considered as a better option as compared to the company’s machine learning techniques because the data being fed to these machines has to be filtered manually by experts and as the amount of data continues to increase everyday implementing filters has becomes quite difficult. Since the research is still in nascent stage, more details could not be obtained. Facebook’s Chief Technology Officer, Mike Schroepfer however can tell us on how this technique will make for a better Facebook.
