Facebook Now Backs Apple’s Live Photos On Its iOS App
In yet another update for Facebook for iOS, the app now joins Tumblr to support the feature of ‘Live Photos’. With new edition of the latest iPhones, like 6s and 6s plus, one can turn still images into videos however sharing options have been limited to other Apple apps only. This is all set to change as Facebook adds Apple’s live photo aspect to its iPhone and iPad app. The access though is not being rolled out all at once, it would be available to a limited number of users first and then on a global scale early next year.
Uploading of a Live photo is pretty much identical to uploading a regular still, but for one extra step. While uploading a photo from your camera-roll that is Live-Photo enabled, a LIVE box appears in bottom right corner, if you tap that it uploads as a Live Photo, if not, it uploads as a regular still picture. One has to tap that box manually with each live Photo. Plus with Live photos you always get a video option (unless you turn the feature off) and every still shot is accompanied by a three second video leading to it with a sound. When the camera app is open the phone automatically records the video in the background. The recording is immediately discarded though if you do nothing.
A little concentric circular icon in the corner of the photo you see indicates it’s a Live photo, press and hold any photo with these circles and the Live photo starts playing. Lift your thumb and it fades back to the stationary form. Only iPhone 6 and 6s Plus can click Live photos currently, but with Facebook any device running iOS 9 (anything as old as iPhone 4s even) will be able to run them, although support for Mac OS isn’t there yet.
The feature sure spells something of a bonus for the iPhone users; however it would have been fabulous had they been made accessible outside of the iOS world too.
