E Stands For Efficiency In Mercedes E Class Engines

Mercedes has long been a luxurious car. It has been stylish too. Whether it is V6 powered model of E 350 or the V8 model of E 500, everything has just one word of description “Superb”. Over the years, it has emerged as a strong contender in terms of looks, style and elegance. Its performance has always startled drivers. Mercedes gives a smooth drive for its passengers. Any E class can achieve a speed of   60 mph in about 6.5 to 7 seconds. Now we will soon have these better models and a 20% increase in efficiency!

Yes, now that is true. According to a latest news, E-class Mercedes will now have a better and a more efficient engine. Now Mercedes engines will be more efficient, thanks to 7G-TRONIC PLUS and ECO start/stop function. It means that the engine will now employ direct injection. Due to this new technology, an average of 20% reduction in fuel consumption was observed. For Biturbo eight cylinder engine, the efficiency increase is by about 17%. The torque and power ratings are up by 70NM and 15kW respectively.

#-Link-Snipped-#The engine in E 350 and E 500 BlueEFFICIENCY has various technologies like 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission and third generation BlueDIRECT injection is used. This engine has got a 3.5 liter engine which can now produce a torque 370NM and a power of 225kW. This is a significant increase of 5NM and 10kW in torque and power respectively. Under laboratory condition, an efficiency increase of one fifth of previous was noted. To give you exact figures, we can now achieve a fuel consumption of 6.8Liters for every 100KM which was earlier more by 1.7 liters for every 100KM. Speed achieved by E 500 is 250 KM/hour.

Another thing which is a key feature this time is that in one power stroke the engine can have five injections and four sparks can be rapidly generated successively. The yet to come E class models for year 2012 will come with even more power as mentioned above. It will not only have an improved power but also a very good efficiency.

Mercedes has given an impressive performance right from its first generation E class cars. The first generation (1986-95) had an excellent performance but it was high on safety quotient too. Even this first generation E 350 had a very good pick-up of 60mph in less than 8 seconds. It has improved by about 2 seconds over the decades.

The second generation (1996-2002) had the same chassis deign as that of first but it featured those four ellipsoid head lights. Over its 10 year long life, we saw many improvements in it. May be it is side curtain air bags or modified front cabin the changes were there, making it even better.

The Mercedes E class which came to market in 2010, it was only a gasoline fed Sedan. For 2011 however, we have an E 350 Bluetec. If we compare between the third generation (2003-09) and the fourth generation (2010 onwards) then we would find that there is not much difference in looks though but definitely the technology was improved.
