Double Robotics Bring Telepresence Robot To The Public Via iPad

If you have watched the famous sitcom The Big Bang Theory, you probably remember the Mobile Virtual Presence Device that Sheldon Cooper had made in the episode “The Cruciferous Vegetable Amplification”.  You can now own this device and operate it by your iPad. Double Robotics has come up with a telepresence robot called as “Double” which can take your tablet anywhere. The system setup uses two iPads, one of these serves as a controller and the other goes places. Like the Segway, the self balancing is activated as soon as it is powered on by the controller app and the user can guide his other iPad by simply touching the place where he wants the bot to go and the intuitive drive control does the rest.

Motorized height control ensures that you always remain at eye level with the person you are interacting irrespective of whether they are sitting or standing. When the robot is at rest the dual kickstands automatically deploy to save power. The company claims that this device will run for an entire day before you need to charge them again. The company has further listed how this robot can be used offices, school, campuses, retail stores, manufacturing facilities, doctors, families, museums and galleries on their website. The robot will roll out in December but interested buyers can preorder this amazing innovation at 1999 dollars which is 500 dollars less than the retail price of 2499 dollars [iPads not included].
