Dolby And Philips Partner To Provide Glasses-Free 3D In High-Definition

The NAB Show at Las Vegas Convention Center from April 16-19 will witness a ground breaking glasses free 3D technology from Dolby and Philips. Named Dolby 3D, the format has been developed by Dolby to provide 3D content in full High Definition on 3D enabled devices.

Philips and Dolby have partnered together to provide this technology on televisions and even smaller devices like tablets, PCs and smartphones. Ramzi Haidamus, EVP Sales and Marketing of Dolby Laboratories believes that the Dolby 3D technology will bring about a revolution enabling widespread adoption of 3D technology and enhancing the viewing experience of the viewers.

The innovative glasses-free 3D display is being provided by Philips and Dolby is taking its advantage to mix its 3D sound technology, brought years ago, to provide a wholesome experience to the consumers. The project will be focussing on working with equipment manufacturers of consumer 3D displays and devices to incorporate this technology into their products and standardising the Dolby 3D technology for all 3D devices. The technology will also enable conversion of present 3D contents to Dolby 3D format maintaining the compatibility for present 3D devices. The technology will also include real-time 3D conversion and content creation tools.
