Difference between git and GitHub?

I have used GitHub and git for programming and still have doubt why we need git for programming and i want to know difference between git and GitHub. Where we use these both.

In simple terms, git is utility/tool. Github is the service. Gitlab is the service. cgit is the service.
These services are using git utility to maintain the repository and provide neat user interface with some cool additional features.

Git is a source code management tool. It can manage a development projects source code history.

 GitHub is a cloud based platform built  around the Git tool. It is an online service  that stores code pushed to it from  computers running the Git tool.
