DataWind unveils Vidya-Tab Punjabi tablet in India, priced at Rs 3,999

Canadian web access products and services major DataWind Inc has launched the one of a kind Vidya-Tab Punjabi in India as a result of its collaboration with Vismaad Inc. which is a leading developer of Punjabi educational and animated contents. The new Punjabi Vidya-Tab is priced at a super affordable Rs 3,999 and is aimed to tackle the problem of extinction of the Punjabi language which is predicted by some recent studies.

The Vidya-Tab Punjabi will be very useful for students who want to learn the Punjabi language, Gurumukhi script or learn about the Punjabi culture. There will be over 100 pre-installed apps all developed by the Vismaad Inc. The apps are designed to be entertaining with attractive custom graphics and genuine Punjabi voice-overs to ensure effective learning. There are apps for formation and dictation of Punjabi alphabets, making of sentences, word formation, for improving Punjabi vocabulary, learning basic Punjabi grammar, Gurumukhi script vowel signs etc.

Coming to the tablet's specification, there is nothing fancy here as expected on this price bracket. It has a seven-inch 5-point capacitive touchscreen with a screen resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and is powered by a Dual-core A7 processor paired with 512 MB of RAM and 4GB of onboard storage.
For photography, the tablet houses 0.3-megapixel cameras on the front and on its rear. The Vidya-Tab Punjabi runs an Android operating system and offers standard connectivity options like calling with dual SIM, GPS, Wi-fi Hotspot, Wi-fi Direct, Bluetooth etc.

Like the recently launched #-Link-Snipped-#, the Vidya-Tab Punjabi also comes bundled with 12 months of unlimited free internet browsing offer which can be availed via the device's pre-installed UbiSurfer web browser. The browser uses DataWind’s back-end cloud servers to compress and fast track the delivery of web contents by around 10-30 times, thus enabling the user to browse feature rich websites on any mobile network.
