CAT aka the Common Admissions Test is probably one of the world's toughest entrance tests for aspiring managers. With the CAT 2011 results to be out on iimcat.in in the next few minutes; we are keeping our fingers crossed that the official website servers will survive the tsunami of traffic. After switching to the CBT mode for conducting the CAT, the organizers had faced lot of wrath from the test takers as the servers got more tensed than the test takers and then crashed. Historical data confirms that the story repeats every year on the results day. IGNOU too had tried to conduct online exam; but the servers crashed.

Is catiim.in prepared to handle the load well? We tried to dig out some information about the host. First we tried to find out which web host is being used to host the official results website. WhoIsHostingThis reveals that the host name is "WebSiteWelcome.com". We tried to investigate further to see what server configurations this web-host offers; but were disappointed. WebSiteWelcom.com currently shows following error message on their front page: For abuse issues related to the websitewelcome.com domain, please email your complaint with any relevant logs to abuse@websitewelcome.com. We then tracked whoIs data and found out that the domain is being maintained by IIM Bangalore. Even the waybackmachine didn't reveal any information about the web host.

CAT 2011 results will bring in tens of thousands of visitors to the site and we just keep our fingers crossed that the servers will survive the load. If you get any additional information about the servers; do share it with us. In the mean time, we already are noticing some lag in connecting to the catiim.in website. What about you?
