Brooklyn Navy Yard To Get NYC A Massive Green Manufacturing Centre

New York City has a 'green' reason to rejoice. An #-Link-Snipped-# has come off the Brooklyn Navy Yardthat it will develop a massive green manufacturing center in the city. At present, the Navy Yard accommodates over 275 businesses (most non-military), recruiting over 6000 people, but the space sought is much more than what's available. The new Green Manufacturing Center, which is supported by a $46 million-dollar investment from the Brooklyn Navy Yard, the New York State senate and Mayor Bloomberg, will generate about 300 new permanent jobs and approximately 400 construction jobs.

The Center shall be LEED Silver-certified, adaptive-reuse project, employing the concrete basis and steel frames of three neighboring late-19th-century structures that were initially used to develop ships for the Navy. One of the largest solar power arrays shall power this center, and apart from the building that's green, it will also have green light manufacturing and clean-tech companies with a few colleges. The main inhabitants will be Crye Precision, a company that produces combat apparel for the military, and real estate developer Macro Sea, known for the local dumpster-pool.
