Abstract. The purpose of the project is, to automate the conventional jaggery making plant using programmable logic controller (PLC) which reduces the manpower which will help in increase in profit and also provide safety to the plant. Also it can help to reduce air pollution. This process is carried out in five stages i.e. crushing, storage, heating, cooling and filling. The sugarcane is crushed into the crushing machine. For pushing sugarcane into machine pneumatic cylinder is used. The juice is collected in storage tank. When high level of the storage tank is detected by the level switch crusher is stop and solenoid valve is open and juice is collected in reactor tank. After a specific time, the heating coils are start heating of juice takes place. At the same time hydrous powder, lime and polyacridaminl is added into the juice. After 15 minutes molasses is starts coming on the juice. It is decanted to a molasses tank by motor operated gate valve at top of the reactor . The heating is continuously carried out for almost 2 hours till temperature of juice is reaches to the 1180 C which is measured by temperature sensor called RTD-PT100. After that another motor operated gate valve is open at the bottom side and jaggery is passed through screw dryer for specific time. After cooling it will be taken for the filling into the moulds. The solenoid valve at the bottom of the dryer is open for specific time and moulds will be filled. For continues filling, conyeour and proximity sensor is used.

Why did you choose to work on this project topic : We all are from Sangli and Kolhapur region. And in this area jaggery production is large but all plant are operated manually. So production cost is high. Plants are not safe for peoples. Rate of Production is less.
So we decide to provide automation approach to this plants. It helpful to increase production and also profitable to farmers. It is pollution free. Wastage of this process can be given to other industries as a raw material. e.g. baggase used in Paper Industries.

Project Highlights : Our idea is innovative in agriculture field. It helpful to farmers. these project is fully automated project. Using this process and project maintain cleanness in jaggery production and plant. We are trying to reduce man power and human efforts. The Purpose of project is to automate the process of jaggery making using PLC which reduces man power and provide safety which helps in increased in total profit of plant. Waste which are generated by jaggery process is usable as raw material to other industries such as baggase is used in paper industries for production of paper. And molasses is used for cattle feed and alcohol production.
