Apple Watch Won't Have Health Monitor

Almost all of the smart watches available in the market promise to keep track of your health apart from reading your mails, taking your voice commands, offer navigation and showing hours minutes and seconds. However, the upcoming Apple Watch may have nixed all the health monitors, reports the WSJ. Sources closer to the development of Apple Watch have confirmed to WSJ that Apple will not include any health monitoring services in their soon to ship smart watch. Some of the health related features were very complicated and others would have prompted unwanted regulatory oversight.

Apple's one of the few electronics companies in the world that put lot of focus on making things simpler to use. The report on WSJ notes that the health sensor technology did not match the standards Apple had set. One of the major concerns for Apple was the inconsistency of the readings recorded by the biosensors because of hairy arms, sweaty or dry skin. Apple was trying to detect blood pressure or the amount of oxygen in blood; but could not get the desired consistency in the results during tests. Interpreting the results to offer health and related services to the users would have required Apple to have US FDA permissions; and that got the company settle for the regular pulse-rate monitoring technology in their smartwatch.


The WSJ report also hints at about 6 million Watches getting ready by Apple's partners in Asia. The Apple Watch is expected to hit the markets in April this year. At the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference, Apple CEO Tim Cook had mentioned that some of the doctors believe that sitting down for long periods could be one of the potential cause of cancer. The Watch will remind you to take a walk at regular intervals and that may help prevent cancer.
