1). what is your current occupation?
Student, final year, mechanical engg, nit jalandhar

    2) What is your location, at present?
    Jalandhar

    3) What are three basic electrical appliances, which you would always need to use, no matter what? (Do not mention laptops, cell phones or other electronic gadgets).
    Fan, toaster, lights

    4) Do power cuts take place frequently in your locality? If so how often?
Quite often, say 3-4 hrs a day if it's a lucky day. On a bad day, 6-7 hours.

    5) Do you use inverters, or gen-sets?
    Inverter

    6) If you are using an inverter, then what are the problems that it presents?
No problems, really. A relay got jumpy about a year ago, and made a lot of chattering noise, but the electrician fixed it in about 5 minutes.

    7) If you are using a gen-set, then what kind of problems does it present?
Never used one. So any opinion I have is second/third hand.

    9) Today, we can frequently see advertisements in the news papers, about some domestic solar power-plants, developed by some American company, and they claim that this is not a back-up system, but a power-plant. Now would you purchase such systems?
Not before I can answer a basic question: considering initial cost and yearly maintenance, when would such a system reach a 'break even' point wrt the grid charges? If the answer is more than '5 years', I wouldn't buy it.
