Android 4.4 Kitkat Features Detailed As Release Happens - Roll Out In Coming Weeks

It is official. Google has released the latest version of its Android Platform with Android 4.4 Kitkat update. KitKat brings with it a big load of useful and interesting features. The key among them are the fact that the Android 4.4 update will be able to run on inexpensive, low-end smartphones as well as the most advanced devices. Sundar Pichai, Google Senior Vice President of Android, Chrome and Apps shared at the press event in San Francisco on Thursday that the overall Android experience has been made more engaging. All of the things that are important to you on the screen will take center stage with the new immersive mode, which automatically hides everything except what you really want to see. So, let us take a look at the Android 4.4 Kitkat features one by one -

With the newly designed Quick Office, users can create and edit documents, spreadsheets and presentations from their Android phone or tablet. Android 4.4 users can print photos, documents, and web pages from any printer connected to Google Cloud Print or any other printers that have apps in the Google Play Store. Those who have Android 4.4 and love messaging, will be able to enjoy the Emoji to the fullest because they're now available on Google Keyboard. Alongside a Smarter Called ID, the Kitkat features a service of just saying “Ok Google” to launch voice search, send a text, get directions or even play a song directly from the home screen!

The latest Android update brings with it the support for Bluetooth MAP i.e. the Bluetooth-enabled cars can exchange messages with your devices using the Message Access Profile. Google's dongle - the Chromecast and your Android device can work together to let you play stuff from Netflix, YouTube, Hulu Plus, and Google Play on your HDTV. With the use of Chrome Web View, all the web components you load are rendered accurately and quickly. Android 4.4 now supports closed captioning and subtitles and if you ever happen to lose your device, you can find or wipe it with the #-Link-Snipped-#. The Downloads app has been redesigned, giving you new sorting options and list and grid views for all the files you’ve downloaded. There's so much more, with Easy home screen switching, if you love to customize your device and have installed one or more home screen replacements, you can switch between them easily in Settings. For those who love getting things done on-the-go, the Email app has been redesigned with a new look that features nested folders, contact photos and better navigation.

The list of the new features on Android Kitkat is really quite extensive - There is full-screen wallpapers with preview mode. On devices with an infrared (IR) blaster, Android 4.4 supports applications for remote control of TVs and other nearby devices. To list a few more, there's Music and movie-seeking from lock screen so that you can jump to a specific part of a song or video even from your lock screen. Just long press on the play or pause button and then select the point you want. Android 4.4 introduces a Android KitKat  |  Android Developers that works with any mobile carrier, and lets apps manage your payment information in the cloud or on your device. It is also important to note that application sandboxes have been hardened with Security-Enhanced Linux.

From Android Cupcake - to Donut - to Eclair - to Froyo - to Gingerbread - to Honeycomb - to Ice Cream Sandwich - to Jelly Bean - to Kitkat, it has been a sweet and beautiful journey of growth for Android operating system. Android 4.4, KitKat, which immediately comes on Nexus 5, will also soon be available on Nexus 4, 7, 10, the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One Google Play edition devices in the coming weeks.     Back then I've watched the demonstration by Qualcomm in CES2013, and it's said that statistically Adreno330 delivers 50% better graphics performance than it's predecessor. Best part is, it uses less power for same processes than it's predecessor, hence longer battery life.
    Snapdragon 800 > Exynos 5. Google, smart choice. 👍

    I am keen to see which SC company is going to beat Snapdragon800 in performance.
