200 Megapixel Camera By Hasselblad Announced At Photokina Imaging Show

We have good news for the paparazzos and the shutterbugs. At the Photokina Imaging show in Cologne, Germany, Hasselblad- a Copenhagen-based camera company had announced the launch of H4D-200MS which is a fabulous 200 megapixel camera in September 2010. The company had claimed that this interesting product would be hitting the markets in the first quarter of 2011 and it has.

Basically, a normal 50 megapixel sensor is used with this camera as was used with the previous model- H4D-50MS. But with the advent of the “Multishot technology” in the 200MS, the camera combines 6 numbers of 50 megapixel shots to a single image to make it an enthralling “200 megapixel image”. The combining of the images involves an intricate process in which piezoelectric motors are used. These motors tend to move the camera image sensor by an infinitesimal amount before capturing an image. With the new multishot mode an offset of a half or a full pixel width is produced in each frame. The need to do this arises from the fact that each sensor pixel captures only red, blue or green light and the above mentioned system provides a compensation for the same. You will need a tripod stand for sure as this would take 30 seconds to take a shot. This digs out a drawback for this product. It cannot capture moving pictures. But you can definitely have a high-end photography of watches, jewelry, cars etc.

The upgrade facility is also available with the company in which you can send back the 50MS cameras and get those upgraded to the 200MS for 7000 euros or $ 9,800. The camera takes an unbelievable shot with the 6132 X 8176 pixels with the sensors measuring 36.7 X 49.1 mm. Each shot of the 6 has a 16 bit color depth per pixel and when amalgamated has a size of about 600 MB. This is why we have a provision to attach a hard drive to the camera even though Compact Flash cards are supported. The ISO sensitivity settings of the camera sway from 50 to 800.

Another issue with this technology was whether the lenses from the earlier version could comply with the high resolving power of the camera. Because if they did not you are sure of getting a blur picture. This problem was also done away by the company by launching two new lenses with overhauled designs. The first is HC-50mm II, f3.5 model which costs about 2999 euros ($ 4006) and the second one is HC macro-120 II F4 model pricing 3420 euros ($4570).

This is a new and top-end model and mind well, it would cost you about 32,000 euros ($45,000).
