Xiaomi set to launch Redmi Pro 2 ahead of Xiaomi Mi 6 by the end of March

While the Mi fans expected the big release of the flagship Xiaomi Mi 6 from the innovative Chinese company in the next month, a new leak out of China claims something new. It says that the company is gearing up for the launch of a new member the Redmi Pro 2, to expand its Redmi line of smartphones, before launching the Mi 6 in April. The Xiaomi Redmi Pro launched in China in July last year with quite compelling specifications, featuring the company's first dual lens camera setup at the back. The device performed well and was more powerful than some other Redmi devices out there. The successor, Redmi Pro 2 is expected to feature the same dual-camera configuration but if an earlier leak is to be believed, the phone-maker is ditching the dual camera for a single lens 12MP Sony IMX362 sensor at the back which if launched, many might see as a downgrade.

Apart from the camera, the Redmi Pro 2 is tipped to feature a premium all-metal design, sporting a 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED display with 2.5D curved glass on top. There will be different variants, one with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage and the other with 6GB RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. As for the SoC, there are contradicting reports with some suggesting the smartphone be fueled by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 while others are speculating that it will ship with an Octa-core MediaTek Helio P25 which includes a 12-bit dual ISP (image signal processing) supporting up to two 13MP rear cameras. The device will run Android 7.0 Nougat-based MIUI out of the box and is expected to be powered by a massive non-removable 4,500 mAh battery.

The device will be quite a powerful mid-ranger with the lower 4GB RAM variant to be priced at 1599 Yuan ($231) and the 6GB variant to come out at 1799 Yuan ($260). As of now, there is no official confirmation from the Chinese manufacturer on the Redmi Pro 2's release and if the latest leaks are accurate, the company will be sending out press invites very soon.
