Underwater Sounds Can Fix Degrading Coral Reefs - Study

The technique called "acoustic enrichment", aka playing underwater sounds can attract fish to the degraded coral reef and trigger the restoration process.

Playing sounds underwater can help restore the degrading coral reefs. Healthy coral reef is full of sounds which attract fish that are looking to settle. Fish play an important role in the coral ecosystem.

By playing music underwater, researchers found that they can attract the fish to the target areas to trigger the recovery. Broadcasting healthy reef sounds increased the number of species in the target area by about 50 per cent.
