Ubuntu Aquarius E5 And E4.5 Smartphones Launched In India Via Snapdeal

Ubuntu phones have arrived in India. Canonical, the UK-based creator of the open source platform called Ubuntu has partnered with BQ, the European technology company that manufactures smartphones, 3D printers, robotics etc. to launch the Ubuntu Aquarius E4.5 and E5.5 smartphone in India exclusively via Snapdeal. With these two, we have the first Ubuntu powered gadgets in the country - something that fanboys across the country were eagerly looking forward to. The smartphones are effectively priced with Aquaris E4.5 for Rs. 11,999 and Aquarius E5 for Rs 13,499. Both devices will go on sale on Snapdeal in the last week of August.

The Aquarius E4.5 as the name suggests, comes with a 4.5 inch multi-touch screen display with 5 capacitive points and the Dragontrail glass. The screen resolution is a meagre 540 x 960 pixel - 240 ppi (qHD) and the aspect ratio is the usual 16:9.

Running on a 1.3 GHz MediaTek Quad Core Cortex A7 processor coupled with Mali 400 GPU, the Aquarius E4.5 comes loaded with 1 GB RAM and 8 GB internal memory (with microSD card expansion up to 32 GB). A 2150 mAh Li-Polymer battery powers this device and Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS/A-GPS, 3G HSPA+, 2G GSM network make up for the user's connectivity needs.

Powered by the Ubuntu OS, the Aquarius E4.5 sports an 8 megapixel camera with dual flash & autofocus on its rear end and a 5 megapixel snapper on the front.

The Aquarius E5.5 comes with a HD resolution 5-inch display with 294 ppi pixel density and Dragontrail glass protection. Running on the same Cortex A7 processor as the E4.5, this device sports 1 GB RAM and 16 GB internal memory. A 2500 mAh Li-Polymer is the E5's power house.

On the smartphone's rear there's a 13 mp - 18 mp camera with dual flash and autofocus. The camera comes with 1/3.2" lens size and Æ’/2.2 Aperture size. The front camera has a 5-8 megapixel resolution and a Æ’/2.4 aperture. Both cameras can capture full HD resolution videos.

Both smartphones E4.5 and 45 will be sold in black color and come fully unlocked with dual SIM functionality. Both handsets comes with offers from service providers such as NDTV, ErosNow, Zomato, Star Plus, Zee TV, NDTV and Times of India.

    I won't pay 10+ K for MT processor and qHD ever! Price is too damn high IMHO. If they lower their price to 7K-8K, I 'WILL' bite for sure.

    The price is little high compared to other smart phones available in market + they offer 1GB ram for upper version which is disappointing 👎 bcz at same price or lesser one we can have 2GB gadget in market . Also they are entirely new in smart phone market in such crucial period , they have to rethink on price for initial sells...rest we will see how consumers respond to this new product 👍
