Trasense Movement Offers Fitness Tracking On A Budget; Seeks Funding On Kickstarter

Chinese start-up Trasense has unveiled its first creation, a fitness tracker called Movement on Kickstarter today. Unlike other fitness trackers available in the market the Trasense Movement offers all the amenities at a fraction of the cost. Although the retail price of the product stands at $23 (Rs. 1472) which is a lot more expensive than the Xiaomi Mi Band and YU Fit Band which cost less than a grand, you can get the Trasense Movement for prices as low as $15 (Rs. 960) by being an early adopter through its Kickstarter campaign. As of this writing the makers of the wearable have managed to garner funds of $3,338 against a modest pledged goal of $12,000 within a few hours of its launch. With 29 days still to go we can safely assume that it will manage to achieve its goal quite easily after which it shall mass produce the Trasense Movement and ship it to backers all over the world by August 2015.

Company CEO and founder Weismann Lee and a couple of his friends took over three years to develop the Trasense Movement. We think they took a lot of time to develop this product because companies like Xiaomi and YU had already managed to develop the same product using almost the same design as the Trasense Movement. As you can see from the image above, the Trasense Movement has a TPSiV bangle, a polycarbonate casing, and an aluminium bean which is the beating heart of the product. We have already seen Top 3 Things You Ought To Know About 'Xiaomi Mi Band' and YuFit Band & HealthYu Offer Health Tracking On A Budget make the same product out of cheaper materials in a slimmer avatar. The TPSiV bangle is claimed to withstand UV discoloration and the “Bean” made out of aluminium with a polycarbonate casing is able to sit comfortably under 5 metres of water.

Trasense Movement 3

Like all fitness trackers in the market the Trasense Movement houses a custom made PCB, Bluetooth 4.0 LE connectivity and a ROHMS accelerometer for tracking user movement. The companion Android and iOS smartphone app called LYTICS has been developed by the company to offer a visual interpretation of the wearer’s fitness goal. We liked the fact that Trasense Movement offers clever encouragement tips like “Walk 15 minutes to complete goal” instead of saying how many steps or distance we have to cover to complete the daily goal. Trasense has saved costs by skipping on wireless charging technology and optioning for a USB thumb drive like device that accepts the Trasense Movement bean. While the team does not specify the capacity of the battery fitted on the Trasense Movement it says that on a single charge it will be able to last for a whole week.

In the age of cheap fitness trackers, the Trasense Movement is a late entrant and it will be facing an uphill battle from affordable brands like Xiaomi and YU and from established names like Jawbone, FitBit and Misfit.
