Confirming the teasers Sharp corporation, native to Japan, has unveiled its much-anticipated smartphone device dubbed Aquos S2. The handset with metal design sports a near bezel-less display with a 5.5-inch display (2048 x 1080 pixels) and a screen-to-body ratio of up to 87.5 percent. Being an adept screen-manufacturer company, Sharp has made Aquos S2 a full screen bezel-less device on three sides with a slight cutout on the top for the camera.
The top corners are diagonal while the back features a 5-surface single-piece 3D glass wrapped around the cameras, entire back and edges. This translates into almost zero gaps and seams on the back of the device. To recall Xiaomi’s Mi Mix flagship series bore almost similar design and screen to body ratio.
On the specifications front, Sharp Aquos S2 is the first phone to sport Snapdragon 630. The 14nm processor features 8 cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.2GHz. Another highlight of the device is its fingerprint sensor located on the front, tipped to be the world’s narrowest fingerprint scanner (just 3.6mm wide). The Aquos S2 would be available in two variants: one with Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC paired with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage, while the other will be powered by Snapdragon 630 SoC and paired with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. Both the variants would come with the support for microSD card slot for further storage expansion.
The smartphone is fired up by a 3,020 mAh non-removable battery with support for 5V/2A fast charging via the USB Type-C port. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Bluetooth, USB Type C port, Wi-Fi 802.11 and GPS support. Further Aquos S2 runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box. On Optics front, the S2 houses a dual rear camera setup equipped with a 12-megapixel primary lens along with an 8-megapixel secondary lens to enable a DSLR-like Bokeh effect. There is a provision for dual-tone LED flash at the back and the rear camera can also record 4K videos at 30fps.
On the front there is an 8-megapixel lens with f/2.0 aperture. The Sharp Aquos S2 would retail in black, white, blue, and mint blue colored variants starting August 14th. The 64 GB storage model would be priced at 2499 Yuan (approx. Rs.23,800) while the higher 128 GB one would cost 3499 Yuan (approx. Rs 33,300). There is no official word yet regarding the launch of the device for other international markets including India.
