Samsung Electronics has launched three new accessories for its mid-range Galaxy Core Advance Android smartphone. These accessories have been carefully designed and developed to assist disabled and visually impaired customers. These accessories add to the existing software accessibility features found on the Galaxy Core Advance. We shall discuss these accessories one by one starting with the Ultrasonic Cover which is a case for the aforementioned smartphone. The case helps a visually impaired user to detect obstacles in front of him/her for up to 2 meters. To alert the user of an oncoming obstacle the smartphone vibrates or plays a spoken alert. The accessory will be particularly useful when the user is in unfamiliar surroundings.

Next we have the Optical Scan Stand, which is a pedestal on which the user places the phone to activate the smartphone’s Optical Scan application which identifies the text present in a picture and reads it out loud. With this gadget all the user has to do is just place the paper on the base of the stand and the Optical Scan application does the rest.

Finally there is the Voice Label, which is a NFC tag with a difference. Like all NFC tags it can be attached to objects but this one will help users to record voice notes associated with a tag by which on a later date they will be identify objects. Samsung says that this feature will lend a user a helping hand with their electronics as they will be able to record the instructions on how to use the particular device as a voice note.

While the press release by the company fails to mention the availability and pricing details it has promised that these assistive technology accessories will be made compatible with other Samsung smartphones very soon.
