New Surface Pro With PixelSense Display & 7th Gen. Intel Core Processors Launched In Shanghai

Microsoft has looked east for its new hardware launch. At a glittering press conference at Shanghai Microsoft launched the fifth generation of its Surface Pro along with Windows 10 China Government Edition. The new Surface Pro isn’t called the Surface Pro 5 for reasons unknown. The new Surface Pro looks very much like its predecessor but Microsoft assures that it is completely designed from inside out with custom built parts and accessories like new Surface Pen and Signature Type Cover which have to bought separately. The new Surface Pro starts off strong with its 12.3inch PixelSense display with a resolution of 2736 x 1824 pixels which results in a pixel density of 267ppi. As expected the new Surface Pro runs Windows 10.


Before we delve into the innards we would like to inform you that the new Surface Pro is available in Platinum, Burgundy and Cobalt Blue colour variants. The new Surface Pro is made out of Magnesium. The new Surface Pro is available in tons of hardware configurations that offer you your choice of processor, graphics, RAM and storage. You can have one of three 7th generation Intel Core processors which includes m3 7Y30, i5 -7300U and i7 7660U. Depending upon your choice of processor you can get either Intel HD Graphics 615, Intel HD Graphics 620 or Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640. You can choose from 4GB, 8GB or 16GB of 1866MHz LPDDR3 RAM. In terms of storage you can go with SSD of either 128GB, 256GB or 512GB and 1TB of PCIe NVMe.


Since it is a Microsoft device it comes with Windows Hello sign-in on its 5MP front camera and 8MP rear camera with full HD video recording capabilities. You can find support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 and the optional 4G LTE connectivity. Instead of the future proof USB Type C ports you have the more conventional USB 3.0 ports along with 3.5mm headphone jack. Microsoft is tight lipped about the battery capacity but says it can last for 13.5 hours on average use.


Microsoft has always struggled with its hardware offerings, whether it is the Surface line up or its failed Nokia smartphone acquisition. The company has turned a new direction under its new chief Satya Nadella devoting more of its resources to services rather than hardware. However the company is keeping its hardware department alive by releasing new devices sporadically that compliment its software. Just recently it launched its new Surface Laptop with Windows 10 S which is a watered down version of Windows 10 that allows app installations only from the Store. The new Surface Pro which is incidentally not called the Surface Pro 5 as thought earlier is aimed at the well heeled who are looking for an alternative to iPad Pro and MacBook. With prices starting at $799, the Surface Pro will be launched globally on June 15. Pre-orders have begun from today in select countries.
