MTNL & IIT-Bombay Collaborate To Deploy Routers In Mumbai

The Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited and the Electronic Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL) signed a MOU to deploy Carrier Ethernet Switch Routers across 8 sites at a ceremony held in IIT-Bombay. The CESRs were conceptualized at the prestigious academic institution and have found their way to tier-1 provider through ECIL which is assigned to produce the router under the license of IIT-Bombay. The routers are aimed at providing flawless service oriented communications and become the basis of next-gen telecommunication services to come. MTNL will deploy the routers in an interconnected ring topology across the 8 chosen sites in the city of Mumbai. Each site will offer carrier-class services to enterprise customers, government agencies and other bodies.

The CESRs boast of as low as 1-microsecond port-to-port latency, which in turn ensures low power consumption and small foot-print. The services offered by CESRs would include Ethernet, leased lines and MPLS network access from 10Mbps to 10Gbps. The backbone network of the CESRs will consist of 10Gbps links that would route Carrier Ethernet and Optical Network packets. The advanced new features are all set to enhance the quality experience for MTNL customers while paving the way for indigenous technology.
