Motorola Announces Moto E (2nd Gen): Quad-Core Processor, LTE & Android Lollipop For $150

The cheapest Android offering from Motorola has got a facelift with the next gen Moto E. The Moto E (2nd Gen), as the company likes to call it, has significant improvements from its predecessor. The Moto E (2nd Gen) with Android 5.0 (Lollipop) will be sold in two variants. The 4G LTE model will be available with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset with 1.2GHz quad-core CPU and a 400MHz Adreno 306 GPU. The 3G variant will house a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 chipset with 1.2GHz quad-core CPU and a 400MHz Adreno 302 GPU. Both variants will have 1GB of RAM and larger 8GB internal memory. You might recall that the current Moto E has just 4GB of internal memory. A microSD card slot has been duly included. To facilitate easier access to the microSD and SIM cards, Motorola has included a side panel which can easily be removed. Motorola has taken the opportunity to sell replaceable bands and grip shells for the removable side cover.

Motorola has resorted with the same tactics with the display as it did for the Moto G (2nd Gen). It has increased the display size to 0.2 inches (4.3 to 4.5 inch) and left the resolution at qHD (540x960). This results in a decrease in pixels per inch count, from 256ppi on the old one to 245 on the new one. The display is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 with an anti-smudge coating and water resistant coating just as before. Instead of a 1980mAh battery, buyers of the Moto E (2nd Gen) will get a 2390mAh battery that will last them an entire day on moderate usage.

On the camera front, Motorola has acknowledged requests of users and included a front VGA sensor on the Moto E. While the rear camera remains the same at 5MP, the company has not included a flash with it. While the former Moto E was able to capture videos up to FVWGA resolution, the new one is able to do the same at 720p HD resolution. Sensor list includes two accelerometers, an ambient light sensor, a proximity sensor and the Sensor Hub. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and navigation sensor list includes GPS, A-GPS and GLONASS. Motorola says the new Moto E will roll out in more than 50 countries in North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia from today and prices of the 3G variant will begin at $119.99 and the 4G LTE ones cost you $149.99 and above.
