A new release of Office 365 was discussed at the SharePoint conference held by Microsoft last week and it christened: Office 365 Personal. Aiming for a Spring release, it is the newest instalment of Microsoft’s cloud-based service which, until now, has had a large consumers’ base of 3.5 million subscribers.

In contrast to Office 365 Home Premium, which was provided at a subscription rate of $9.99 per month and $99.99 per year, Microsoft plans to retail Office 365 Personal at a rate of $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year. In addition, keeping in mind the needs of an individual user, Office 365 Personal allows for one PC or Mac and one tablet to be connected to the service. The Home Premium plan, which is the smallest subscription plan, can accommodate the needs of a household and could support five devices. 60 minutes of Skype calling per month and 20GB of additional OneDrive storage will also be included in the Personal subscription plan as it was included in Home Premium.

After the release of the Personal edition, the Office 365 Home Premium will be renamed to Office 365 Home. By releasing the Personal plan, Microsoft plans to cover households of all shapes and sizes and provide the right Office to everyone, be it a single individual or an entire household. With the initiation of an intelligence fabric ‘Oslo’ and Office 365 Personal, Microsoft is attempting to improve the Office 365 experience for its customers.
