LG Will Unveil Its First 8K TV At CES 2016 Along With New HDR-enabled 4K TVs

CES 2016 is just around the corner and LG is all set to unveil its first production-ready 98-inch 8K SUPER UHD TV to the public at Las Vegas. LG 8K Apple iMac - Because 5K Is So Yesterday! informed the media about this TV back in April 2015 while upsetting Apple by leaking information about its upcoming 8K iMac. Display enthusiasts would know that 8K UHD (ultra high definition) is currently the highest resolution to exist for televisions and digital cinematography. At image dimensions of 7680×4320 pixels, this eight feet behemoth has 16 times the pixels as compared to your household 1080p HDTV. LG says that the 8K SUPER UHD TV will start shipping in the second half of 2016 at an as yet undisclosed price tag. Spoiler alert, it will be expensive, say around $130000 or 86 lakh rupees because Sharp’s 8K offering costs around the same.

Along with this 8K SUPER UHD TV, LG is planning to unveil four new IPS panel UHD (4K) TVs which include the 65-inch UH9500, the 86-inch UH9550, the 75-inch UH8550 and the 65-inch UH8500. As you might have guessed from the model numbers, the UH9500 and UH9550 are the top of the range models which feature True Black Panel and Contrast Maximizer. True Black Panel just like Nokia ClearBlack technology reduces reflections on the screen and improves visual image quality. The Contrast Maximizer on the other hand adds to the depth of the videos by separating objects from their backgrounds.

The 65-inch UH9500 and the 86-inch UH9550 feature for the first time LG’s new HDR Plus technology. So if you have 4K HDR video content then you will be able to distinguish between the lightest light and darkest dark on these TVs. If you do not have 4K content, you can take help of LG’s ULTRA Luminance technology, a SDR-to-HDR conversation engine and a HDR-compatible HDMI port to enjoy standard definition content in 4K HDR-like quality.

If you are worried about true colour reproduction on your expensive TV, LG has got you covered with ColorPrime Plus technology on all the four products. This technology is a fancy way of saying that on all these TVs you get a broadened colour spectrum that covers 90 percent of the Digital Cinema Initiative's expanded colour range which consists of about one billion possible colours. If its sound you are worried about then fret not as LG has taken help from Harman/Kardon on this one. These TVs are also future proof as they support the upcoming BT.2020, the next-generation standard for broadcast and distribution.

LG claims that all UHD TVs in the 2016 line-up give the appearance of the TV floating in the air thanks to the ultra-thin 6.6mm screen depth and near invisible bezels. We are guessing someone from the marketing department put in this phrase fill the reader with awe but they aren’t fooling anybody. Just as always LG has kept the pricing and availability details under wraps until CES 2016 begins on January 6th at the Las Vegas Convention Centre.
