HP SlateBook X2 Features: Split Happens, But Is It The Best Android Hybrid So Far?

Announcing the launch of one of the most alluring laptop-tablet hybrid running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean at $480 in the US, HP is banking on the fact the split will make a difference. HP SlateBook X2, as the laptop is called, will feature the Nvidia's super-powerful Tegra 4 SoC clocked at 1.9 GHz with 2GB of DDR3L RAM while weighing just 1.4 kg (docking station weight included). Competing directly with the ASUS's mega-popular Transformer Series, HP's SlateBook X2's feature overview tells us that this is one serious laptop/Tablet-PC that the gadget-lovers are bound to consider. With ASUS's latest gig of publishing a #-Link-Snipped-# creating a rave, tech-enthusiasts are going to have a gala time checking who becomes the more sales making company this year.

Coming back to the SlateBook X2, HP has made its new gadget to boast off a 10.1-inch HD BrightView LED-backlit display with 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution offering an aspect ratio of 16:10. While two batteries muscle up within, one in the tablet and other in the keyboard dock, the company's claims are about delivering up to 14 hours of battery service. This tablet has an inbuilt 64GB of storage (16GB and 32GB models could be availed as well), while the dock offers USB 2.0 ports for entertaining external memory.

For connectivity options, users can switch to Wi-Fi, HDMI, Bluetooth and microSD and along with an additional battery, the keyboard dock packs in a SD card slot, an audio jack, Kingsoft Office Suite and the 'clickpad'. For camera, the tablet features a 2 megapixel shooter in the rear and a front facing HD TrueVision with an integrated microphone for video calls. Yeah, all that and there's more to this news. Apart from the SlateBook X2, HP even unveiled the Windows 8 running Split X2 hybrid which is priced at $800 and has a screen resolution of 1366 x 768. Ron Coughlin, senior vice president and general manager, Consumer PCs, HP said, "The HP SlateBook x2 and the HP Split x2 are next-generation devices and the latest examples of our continued commitment to evolving the computing experience by providing the flexibility necessary for customers to be productive at home, at the office or on the go."

So now, we do know that both of these hybrids will be available for retail in US come this August, but nothing has been revealed by the company regarding the tablets' worldwide availability or pricing. Do our readers see the 'X' Factor in the SlateBook X2? Does it have the competitive edge among the peers? We would like to know, so share your thoughts in comments.
