Google Opening 'Android Nation' Retail Stores Across India This Year

Google Inc. is all set to open a chain of retail stores called 'Android Nation' in India later this year. Call it a we-do-what-sells strategy, if you may, but India is only the second nation after Indonesia to have such stores across various cities starting from New Delhi, the capital city of India. (Delhites can keep a watch for this store at Select Citywalk). Partnering with Spice Global, Google has planned to set up these stores to promote and sell its collection of Android smartphones and tablets across multiple brands like Samsung, HTC, Sony, LG, Asus etc. Much similar on the lines of Apple's iStores, these Android stores would not only be the trusted destinations for Android fans, they would also serve as an Android experience centre for new customers who can check out what's latest from Google Play Store, get help from experts (Android engineers?), download software updates or check out the latest accessories for their devices.

Since we all know that this model works very well in India, the fact that Google's trying hard to make moves for penetrating the Indian market, are going to prove fruitful. You can check out the picture of how lively a typical Android Nation will look like. It's the one Android Nation store opened in Jakarta in mid 2012 by partnering with Indonesian electronics retailer Erafone.

Android-Nation

With an expanse of 1,200-1,500 square ft., with the help of Global Spice these stores will gradually make their way outside India, in Middle East, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Africa. After the opening of the first Android Nation store, they plan to convert about 50 of the Hotspots into Android Nation stores to enable rapid expansion of the franchise. "We will focus on 3G phones and phase out 2G gradually," he said. Modi's son Dilip Modi will spearhead Android Nation in India.

Now just like Samsung, Apple and Microsoft, customers who are willing to have that little "hands-on experience" on a product before they are willing to purchase it will become a bit easier and authentic. You can expect to hang-out at your nearest Android Nation store by end of this year.
