Google I/O 2015 @ California - May 28, 29; Only For The Lucky Ones

Google's Pichai Sundararajan, known among the tech community as Sundar Pichai has formally announced the dates for #-Link-Snipped-# conference. This year's conference will be scheduled on 28 and 29th may at the traditional Moscone Center West in San Francisco, California. In 2014, Google picked up the attendees randomly and this year too, the only criteria you will need to be able to buy the tickets is some solid luck. So hate it or like it, Google only wants the lucky ones to be able to attend the conference.

The registration for the conference will begin at 9:00 AM PDT on March 17 and will accept entries till 5:00PM PDT, March 19. Those who want to register will have to sign into their Google account to start the registration process. Also, the "applicants need not rush" informs Google's official registration page. Google's random applicant picker will select the lucky ones who will get a chance to buy the ticket. Of course, only one registration per person is being allowed.

Google's not announced the price for the tickets; but we can expect to be about $900 - $1000; based on last year's pricing ($900). Well, Google's given lot of goodies to the participants in the past; for example, the Google I/O attendees got two Android wear smart watches and #-Link-Snipped-# - a cool cardboard based VR box.

Detailed scheduled will be published in a few day's time. Until then, wait for the registrations to open and try your luck. We wish you all the best of it and if you get a chance to attend the conference, do share all the updates with our fellow engineers.

and looks like Sundar Pachai has taken "Make In India" pretty serious and not make in India then "Makers from India". 😘😘

Google Photos is going to kill a ton of services - Flickr (1TB) is just one of them. Btw, I'm surprised to see Indian dominance on Google IO stage.

    Ok.. I tried Google photos.
    App is awesome πŸ‘
But, free storage is not great as advertized. a 15MP picture is getting shrunked to 2.3Mb. I saved it on my machine in 13 mb 100% JPG quality from RAW file.
    Capture

Difference is clearly noticeable on web but on downloading, it is somehow comparable to original picture.
It's now tough decision to choose between flickr and google photos for backup.
Google photos has great navigation and easy sharing whereas flickr has full 100% quality sharing.
I think google Plus is good to go for sharing stuffs.

#-Link-Snipped-# - I think Google's clear about the target group for the apps service. They know that the majority of the photos uploaded to the service will be selfies taken with from not-so-good front cameras. Plus I'd guess 99% of the rest of the photos will be taken by amateur photographers from their cellphones. They won't notice any significant change in quality of the photos.

Given that the professionals will always have an option to choose their service (500px, Flickr, Apple Cloud etc.). The most attractive feature here is that Google's offering photo storage for free. That's going to attract a lot of people.

I tried uploading an old album from my computer to the Google Photos - and I'm pretty satisfied with the results. I'd upload all my high quality photos to Flickr or say 500px.
