Google’s first cloud platform in India goes live in Mumbai

Google on Wednesday announced the opening of its first ever Cloud Platform (GCP) region in India at Mumbai. It would help customers build applications and store data making it easier to build highly available, performant applications using resources across the region. According to a statement by the tech-giant, hosting applications in the new region can improve latency from 20-90% for end users in Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Mumbai, compared to hosting them in the closest region, Singapore.

Pre-existing GCP regions in Asia Pacific include- Singapore, Taiwan, Sydney and Tokyo. This development also entails that the users can now purchase services directly in Indian rupees rather than paying for it in foreign currency.

The new Mumbai region offers 3 zones to build the next great application providing various services to users like computing, big data, storage and networking. Further for the customers who would like to privately connect to the Mumbai region, Google is offering Dedicated Interconnect at two locations- GPX Mumbai and Tata Mumbai IDC.

Google Cloud Platform could also be used for any data that has been regulated by the government to stay within India. The Cloud Platform will enable developers to build, test, and deploy applications on Google's highly-scalable and reliable infrastructure, quoted the company. Indian companies as Hungama, DB Corp., have welcomed the addition of this GCP region to South Asia.
