DisplayPort eDP 1.4a Makes Way For 8K Resolution Laptop Displays

If you recently bought a iMac 5K Retina Display Price In India (~ Rs. 180,000 To Rs. 200,000) or are busy boasting your brand new 4K laptop display, please remember that the engineers at the Video Electronics Standards Association aka VESA have already moved on to something better - 8K display screens for laptops. VESA announced the Embedded DisplayPort (eDP) Standard Version 1.4a which replaces the current eDP 1.4, published about two years ago. The eDP 1.4a specification allows for very high video data transfer for the higher panel resolution, adds more depth to colors and also enables better refresh rates.

The latest standard update supports embedded panels with up to 8K (that is 7,680 x 4,320) resolution. If the technical jargon doesn't make sense to you; just be informed that eDP 1.4a uses the technology to squeeze a lot of data into the video feeds - and it can divide the displays into 2/4 segments to cope up with more pixels. It also allows for the displays to operate at lesser power; which means a laptop with 4K display will last longer. That'd be a great advantage in addition to super-razor-sharp videos and photos.

Unlike most of the technical advances that take several years to hit the markets, VESA is expecting to ship the DisplayPort next year. Note that this does NOT mean that we'll start seeing 8K computers in the market next year, but this advancement definitely is a step forward in that direction.
