DataWind unveils MoreGMax 3G6 phablet with 12 months of free internet, at Rs 5,999

Canadian wireless, web-access products, and services developer Datawind, has expanded its product lineup with the launch of a new phablet MoreGMax 3G6 in India. Priced at Rs 5,999 the device is aimed at the budget segment and was launched by Mr. John Tory, the Mayor of Toronto, Canada, during his visit to the company's state of the art manufacturing facility in Hyderabad. Though major manufacturers are struggling with their sales of the Android tablets, Datawind said with the MoreGMax 3G6 phablet it wants to cater to the forgotten billion in India who have been left out of the growth and prosperity by empowering them with the connectivity of billions of pages of websites which are a rich source of information. The company is also offering 12 months of free internet with the device.


The MoreGMax 3G6 comes in a plastic body built featuring a 6.0-inch capacitive display with gesture support. It is powered by a 1.3Ghz Quad Core processor paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of onboard flash memory. The storage can be further extended by up to additional 32GB with a microSD card. On the optics front, there is an 8-megapixel rear camera accompanied by a LED flash and a 2-megapixel front shooter for selfies. The phablet runs Google's Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.

Connectivity includes standard options like 3G HSPA, Dual SIM support, Wi-fi, Wi-fi Direct, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Bluetooth, GPS and MicroUSB 2.0. Sadly, the phablet doesn’t support 4G LTE and hence can’t be used with Reliance Jio's 4G SIM. Datawind is instead offering 12 months of free internet to its user via its collaboration with Reliance Communications. But the users can access this facility only on the Datawind’s patented UbiSurfer web browser that offers faster browsing experience even with slow internet connectivity.

The phablet comes in black color and will be manufactured in India at the Datawind's Hyderabad plant. Though its a decent offering with the free internet offer but there are better devices like the Xiaomi's Redmi 4A if one is ready to settle with a smaller screen.
