BMW, the German automobile giant, has launched its brand new 2014 BMW X5 in India today. Priced at Rs 70.9 lakhs (all-India ex-Showroom), the 3rd generation BMW X5 brings several new design features that speak loud about its majestic appearance and sporty look. Powered by a BMW TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder Diesel engine called "xDrive30d", the new SUV has fuel consumption of 6.2 l/100 km and combined CO2 emissions of 164 to 162 g/km. This engine produces 258 hp at 4,000 rpm and 560 Nm of torque between 1,500-3,000 rpm and sends power to all four wheels using an 8-speed automatic transmission. All this is coupled with an intelligent all-wheel drive system, an Adaptive Suspension Package ‘Comfort’ and an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. With BMW EfficientDynamics, BMW combines efficiency and driving pleasure and drives to achieve the ultimate goal of zero-emissions mobility. Moreover, the presence of ECO PRO Mode, results in up to 20% reduced fuel consumption.

Coming to the exterior design, there are a number of eye-catching elements on the front, rear as well as the sides. There are large air inlets, the Air Curtain in the front apron and the newly developed Air Breather in the front wheel arches underline the sporty character of the BMW X5. The kidney grille is designed to be flat and wide and is combined with an adaptive LED headlight. You can notice that the the short distance between the A-pillar and the front axle shifts the visual focus of the car further forwards, thus highlighting the all-wheel drive. The focus on the overall design structure is that of aerodynamic shape. On the rear end too, the Air Blade on the D-pillar is present to improve airflow and make the car look wider and powerful.

On the car's interiors, you will find the usual top-quality leather that meets elegant decors, refined surfaces, atmospheric lighting and overall maximum comfort. To highlight the feeling of increased space, horizontal contours and contrasting surfaces have been added. The new Navigation system Professional has a large, high-resolution display and the Quick Start function gets the system up and running within 10 seconds. The 3D map navigation with improved directions and a larger memory for multimedia files further improves user comfort. The iDrive Touch Controller gives you convenient control of the iDrive system with one hand. Thanks to the touchpad integrated in the Controller, you can easily enter such information as destinations for the navigation system using your own handwriting. Moreover, the presence of rear view camera keeps the area behind the car in view on the Control Display while maneuvering and parking.

For the passenger's comfort, the upper tailgate swings up high and allows smaller, lighter objects to be conveniently stowed and removed. The lower tailgate creates a platform flush with the load compartment floor when open, allowing luggage to be set down before being loaded. The rear seats can be folded down in 40:20:40 split and the luggage space can be extended up to a generous 1,870 litres. Overall, the new 2014 BMW X5 has the dimensions - 4,886 mm in length, 2,184 mm in width, 1,762 mm in height and 2,933 mm in wheelbase.

That's all about the technical details and features of the new SUV in town. You can accelerate the BMW X5 from 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and also achieve a top-speed of 230 km/h. To know more details of the car, you should check out the following video -

      Very well written review.

The new BMW X5 looks outstanding from exterior and have equally good interior to support that. I am sure this will surely attract the folks with the bigger pocket (with a whopping 75 L INR price).

I am happy taht even with the costlier BMW X5 series German car company had spent few cents for making it environment friendly as well
